Spice Bowl - Paper Pulp

Spice Bowl - Paper Pulp

The Spice Bowl was made with paper pulp.

A shallow bowl was used as a mould and the final decoration was done by marking off the pattern then glueing each individual area with PVA.

We used normal cooking spices to decorate. We had some in the kitchen that were over their use by date. Rather than throw them away we decided to experiment with them.

Annemarie spread ginger on the lighter sections and cayenne pepper on the darker ones.

It took a bit of doing to get the look she wanted but several layers and plenty of drying time later, she was ready to seal it with a matt polyurethane varnish.

The underside of the bowl is painted with medium oak wood dye.

We kept this one in our own collection as we'd never tried this before and we want to see how it holds up over time.
