SNOWBALL GIRL

by Anne Antonia Beltane
(Teynham, Kent uk)

Anyone for a snowball?

Anyone for a snowball?

Anyone for a snowball? ready to paint

I wanted to make a 3D cartoon character and then thought about doing one for each season.

So here is the 1st one, just finished 2 days ago, and she's called 'Sarah Snow'.

I made a basic body shape from modelling wire, appx 22cm tall, padded out the torso with card, and used a screwed up piece of (previously used :)) tin foil for the head. I used thinner bits of wire for the fingers.

I used a piece of modelling wire (the neck) to attach the head to the card body. I attached & covered everything using good ole masking tape! (useful stuff!)

I covered it all in a thin layer of paper mache, then added a 2nd layer where I wanted more thickness.

It wasn't as smooth as I wanted it, so I added a thin layer of soft air-drying clay all over and then added ears and the nose and hair. And snowballs!
(So I understand if you don't wanna use this as it's not entirely paper mache)

I painted about 5 coats of slightly watered-down PVA glue all over, to give it added strength.

When she was completely dry, I painted her with acrylic paints and added a felt purple skirt to match her top. Done!

She's brilliant Anne. No worries that you used other materials as well as paper mache. We do that too. As long as there's some PM in there somewhere she "qualifies".

Thank you for sharing.
