Which is the Best Paper Mache Recipe for Your Project?

The best paper mache recipe is the one that works best for you. We love to experiment and we'll share what works for us. But if you enjoy playing around, creating your own weird and wonderful recipes can be a lot fun.

Paper mache ingredients can often be found in your kitchen or lurking in other unexpected places around your home.

Paper Mache Paste Recipes

Traditionally paper mache was made with a simple flour and water paste. We rarely used this as, living in South Africa, it had a tendency to attract the local wildlife. Mice and fruit flies love it ;-)

However, now we're living in the UK we will experiment more with it.

Paper Mache Pulp Recipe

Pulp is easy to make and very versatile to use. It's a fantastic way to use up any shredded paper you may have. One thing we learnt very quickly is don't shred your window envelopes.

The first time we used our shredded paper we were all excited about not having to spend ages tearing squares of newspaper, but we spent ages plucking bits of shredded plastic out of our finished pulp. Not fun!
