Paper Mache Hippo

Paper Mache Hippo This is Alice the paper mache hippo.

Alice was made out of some left over paper pulp we had lying around. The sandy base was roughly shaped and left to dry.

We then coated it with sand and added the "water". The water looks dull and muddy but that's what a South African water hole with a hippo wallowing in it would look like.

Paper Pulp Hippo For the bulrushes we used match sticks with a bit of pulp stuck to the top.

The rocks are stones we found in the garden and pressed into the pulp while it was still wet.

Alice was painted using acrylic paints and finished off with polyurethane varnish.

We used a gloss varnish for the "wet" bits and a matt for the dry bits.
