Easter Island Statue_Letterbox

Easter Island Letterbox

Easter Island Letterbox

I made this Easter Island letterbox from paper mache, then fibreglassed it.

When the fibreglass resin was hard, I hosed all the paper and cardboard out of it, then partially filled the body with ballast foam to give it extra weight and resistance to wind. I made sure there were no openings where wildlife could get in.

It has several coats of outdoor paint, with sand sprinkled between coats.

I fibreglassed a short length of PVC pipe into the base so it could be concreted into the ground.

We call him Man Friday and he's been happily collecting our mail for two years.

Awsome!

I love your Easter Island statue!
He seems to 'radiate' character!
He must have brought a smile to the postman, too!
Glad you shared it!

Wow!

What a fantastic idea, Sue. I would never have thought about using fibreglass to weatherproof something you originally made from paper mache.

He looks brilliant sitting there among the plants.

Thank you for sharing him with us.
