Brown Paper Mache Vase with Paper Rope Twist Trim

Brown Paper Mache Pot

We originally finished this brown paper mache vase in blues and purples. We wanted to get away from our usual colour schemes but neither Annemarie or I really warmed to it so it was repainted in brown with gold trim.

This vase was made using a balloon and the strip paper mache method.

The base was made from a pickle jar lid and the trim was made to look like a rope by soaking the paper in diluted white PVA glue and twisting it.

Annemarie decorated it with Java Bean household emulsion that we bought in tester pots from our local DIY outlet. She added a little builder's sand to the paint to give it some texture.

The gold around the rope trim is acrylic paint.
