Autumn Leaves

by Diane J
(Milton Keynes, UK)

Autumn Leaf Bowl

Autumn Leaf Bowl

I was inspired by the pretty autumn leaves that are beginning to fall from the trees in my back garden.

I wanted to do something that would represent the texture and the shape of the leaves so I used kitchen towels over a mixing bowl from my kitchen.

I wasn't sure how well it would turn out but it's actually quite strong. I used 6 sheets of kitchen towel and applied pva glue and watered down acrylic paint between each layer.

The colours are brighter than autumn colours but I wanted something cheerful to lift up my colour scheme over the coming winter.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Diane. I love your technique and the colours. It has a lovely texture.

I imagine it would be quite translucent made from kitchen towel and I'd actually love to see it with one of our battery operated tea light candles in it.

I'm really keen to have a go at making one of these myself. It's lovely.
