African Pulp Bowl

This African pulp bowl was decorated while I was watching a FIFA World Cup match from Cape Town.

It's not that I was bored with the game or anything, but it got me thinking of all things African and this was the result.

African Pulp Bowl

The bowl is more of a plate really as it's very shallow. Annemarie made it about two years ago and painted it with white emulsion but couldn't decide how to decorate it.

I had the urge to do something with it and this is what I came up with.

African Pulp Bowl Detail I wanted to create a bit of drama so I used the stark black and white of the zebra stripes and added the contrasting brown triangle with the soft dotted pattern.

So far, everyone who has seen it has had a strong reaction to it. They either love it or they hate it.

My mom loves it, but she doesn't like it standing with the brown triangle facing upwards. She prefers it to be slightly off centre.

I know when she's been for a visit, even if I'm not home, because I'll always find my African plate has been turned out of the position I usually have it in.

Annemarie hated it at first and said it looks like two separate works of art. It's growing on her now though and I think she sort of likes it.

What do you think?

We'd love to know. Just vote in the form below to tell us your verdict. You can tell us if you hate it, honest. Remember, we don't know where you live;-)
