About Us
Paper Mache Artists Annemarie and Karen

Just a little bit about us so you can see who we are. I always think it's nice to see the faces behind the website and to know a little bit about them - so here we are.

Paper mache artist, Annemarie

Annemarie:

Annemarie grew up on a farm in rural South Africa. She trained as a fashion designer at Leggat's Academy in Johannesburg but her love of shape and colour soon lead her to painting and then to paper mache.

Annemarie has a natural feel for shape and colour and loves to try out new designs and materials.

"I grew up on a farm so I'm used to the peace and solitude of the country. I love the bush and the ocean and most of my inspiration for design and colour comes from nature."

Annemarie is involved in making the art on the site and is the main photographer.

Paper mache artist, Karen

Karen:

As well as working on the projects, I do most of the writing on the site. I have also been known to take the occasional photo - look out for the slightly dodgy ones ;)

I grew up in South Africa and Zambia. I'm self-taught and have experimented with shapes, materials and decorative finishes for years.

I firmly believe that, with a little guidance, anyone can make stunning art out of everyday materials.

I spent my youth surrounded by Africa's wonderful textures, colours and vivid sunlight. I have always been influenced by the beauty and drama of our planet and I try to capture that in my art.

Both of us are passionate about nature and the environment, and feel paper mache is a wonderful way to recycle.

Although PM will always be the main focus of the site, we're always looking for new ways to keep stuff out of landfill sites so we will be introducing other ways to reuse objects that might otherwise be thrown away.
