Issue #15, 1st September 2011

Welcome to the Halloween issue of Trash to Treasure. I know it's only the beginning of September but the Halloween project is a pulp one so it needs plenty or time to dry out properly in time for the big day.

In this issue:

  • 1. Amazing Paper Mache Seahorse
  • 2. Your Art
  • 3. Our Latest Work
  • 4. Halloween Skull Lantern
  • 5. Coming Up In October's Trash to Treasure

1. Hazel's Amazing PM Seahorse

We got an email the other day from a paper mache artist called Hazel Bryce. Her work is absolutely amazing and you can see it on her website at her website. You must see her Seahorse. The fine detail in it is incredible and it took her six years to complete.

Anyway, Hazel is currently looking for a gallery or a museum somewhere it the UK or Europe to be a permanent home for the Seahorse which is on display at a paper museum in the Czech Republic until May next year.

If you know of anywhere that might be interested in such a wonderful piece of sculpture please get in touch either with us, or with Hazel via her website.

2. Your Art

We have two lovely new submissions on the site from Linda. There's the Lion Fish which also has photos of another fish and a gorgeous cat, and the Mother and Daughter in paper and fabric.

Both beautiful pieces and the use of colour is stunning. Thank you for sharing them with us.

If you have something you'd like to share with us the instructions for doing so are at the end of this email.

3. Our Latest Work

Now, I have to confess that I haven't really been on the ball with the site this month. Things at work have been crazy and I've recently become 'mother' to a rescue greyhound and a young hedgehog who was found wandering around with hypothermia. I'm also halfway through my second novel so my PM has suffered a little bit.

We have been hard at work on our elephant though and he now has his own page up on the site.

There is a really cute video of some real elephants on the page too.

4. Halloween Skull Lantern Tutorial

As promised here's something nice and spooky for Halloween. We call him Skelly and he is a Halloween Skull Lantern. I hope you enjoy having a go at making one. We'd love to see it if you do.

You can download it here.

5. Coming Up Next Month

Next month's Trash to Treasure will have the usual news and updates. Hopefully there will be a bit more to tell than there has been in this issue. The project for October will be Annemarie's fish.

If you'd like to share some of your art with us, ask a question, or just get in touch, details of how to are below.

That's all for this month.

Happy creating until next time,

Karen x
