Issue #10, 1st April 2011 Welcome to the April 1st edition of Trash to Treasure. Spring is upon us here in the northern hemisphere, though no one has told the weather in the UK yet. Never mind, there are plenty of beautiful yellow daffodils to make it look bright and sunny.
New on the site: There's quite a bit of new content up on the website so I'll start by telling you what I've been up to: Work in Progress I managed to get the fort and palace that featured in last month's WIP finished, and the full tutorial is now up in the KidZone. This month, I'm working on a monster. At the moment he's pink, so I doubt he'll scare too many people. Anyway, I decided to have a go at one after reading Dan Reeder's latest book. I was so intrigued by his techniques that I've added a page with a little bit of info about him, and a link to his site, on CPM. Your Art We've had two reader's contributions to the website this month. The first one was a lovely Goli Mask by Nicky from my old stomping ground, KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. She made the mask for an arts and culture project at her school. The second was this beautiful Zebra Plate by Sue from Australia. Pop along to the site to see how she made it. Her method has inspired all kinds of possibilities for future projects. If you have any art you'd like to share, please feel free to upload it to the site by filling in the form in the Your Art section of CPM. Sculpture Gallery The latest addition to the sculpture gallery, and my wall at home, is Edgar Allan Hippo. I really need to thank Lyn from Canada for giving me the nudge I needed to get this one done. I've wanted to make a PM hippo head for a long time now, but it was an email from her that finally prompted me to get it made. So, thank you Lyn! April's Project This month's project is a lovely vase of flowers. It's a perfect gift for Mother's Day, a birthday, to say thank you to someone, or even just to brighten up your own home. Click here to download your copy of the tutorial. Finally, you'll be pleased to hear that CPM's official photographer will be back from South Africa at the end of the month, so we'll be getting some better quality photos on the site and in the tutorials. Unfortunately she won't be back in time for next month's project, but I will do my best with my trusty cellphone camera. Coming Up... In May's Trash to Treasure we'll be making something special for dad for Father's day, and I'll have all of the latest news about what's going on on the site. If you want to keep up with the latest happenings in between issues, we have a Facebook fan page which you're welcome to join, and take part in. We'd love to see you there. That's all for this month. I hope you'll join us again for the May edition of Trash to Treasure. Until then, happy creating, Karen and Annemarie Our tutorial is in PDF format and requires Adobe Reader to view it. You can get a free copy by going to their website if you don't already have it. |
